Direction to Tory Bush Cottages Directions
to Tory Bush Cottages from Dublin The best way through Newry is to follow the Ring Road around the outskirts of the town, at the 4th and final roundabout the main route goes left for Belfast. However you turn right for the town centre. At this roundabout on your right should be the Mourne Country Hotel. Drive towards the town centre (about 1 mile) until come to two adjacent mini-roundabouts, at the second mini-roundabout please turn left onto B8 following signs for Newcastle, on your right as you make this turn should be a restaurant called the Brass Monkey. Drive about 10 mile to village of Hilltown passing throu the smaller village of Mayobridge on the way. At bottom of hill in Hilltown the main road sweeps left but you turn right onto B180 following signs for Bryansford. The B180 takes you almost to the Cottages some 7-mile from this point. About one mile out of Hilltown just past a Country Pub and Petrol Station the road forks, take the left fork, which should be sign-posted for Bryansford and Newcastle and is still the B180. The road will be quite twisty and the mountains will be on your right hand side, about 5 mile from this fork the road will bend to the left and you will get a tremendous view down the valley to the sea, (at night you will see a lighthouse rotating in the distance), and you will see forests coming into view on both sides of the road. The cottages are 600 yards or so from this point so slow down and look out for a sign on the right hand side indicating the location of the cottages up a little road on the left. (be warned that you will pass a sign on the right for other cottages Millars Close, 300 yards before you reach the Tory Bush sign). This little road is just before the forest on the left of the main road, there is also a carpark at the junction (for people to sit and look out over the mountains). This is quite a steep sharp turn up past the carpark. The cottages are 300 yards up this side road on the left hand side. Drive past the cottages and turn into driveway to take you back into the cottage complex. Directions from Belfast From Belfast follow signs for Newcastle, the road is the A24 all the way. Directions from Newcastle Follow the signs out of town for Tollymore Forest Park, (TFP), drive past the entrance to TFP up to a T-junction in Bryansford village, where you turn left and proceed up throu the village passing a garage on the right and a shop/P.O. on the right. About 100m past the shop is the exit gate of TFP, built like a Gothic Arch, continue on main road for 1 mile from this exit gate and as you drive the wall of the Forest Park will be on the left, the wall will end and you will see the mountains for the first time. About 300 m past the end of the wall there is a road on the right hand side, at this turn there is also a sign indicating that Tory Bush is 350 yards up this side road, (the Tullyree Road). there is also a small carpark at this junction where people sit and look out over the mountains. Drive up the side road about 350 yards and the cottages are the first buildings on the left-hand side, drive past the cottages about 50 ms and turn left and enter the cottage complex by a short laneway. |
